Government takes action to save the girl child

Many a girl child have been dropping out of school because of issues like sanitary pads and school fees. Even though the government suspended import tax on sanitary pads in 2018 under the statutory instrument 264 and 265 of 2018 it has not stopped the prices from increasing. The finance minister Mthuli Ncube today announced in the 2020 budget that his ministry will allocate 200 million dollars to help in the provision of the pads. He said the program will start in the rural schools from grade 5 to form 6. He also said he is allocating Z$450million towards the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) to help disadvantaged children lower the school drop outs currently seating at 20 400 pupils according to the United National Educational Organization (UNESCO) current report
